Day 134: Kinsman Ridge

Day: 134 Miles: 8.8 Trip:  1812.8 Started: Eliza Brook Sh.  Destination:  Franconia Notch

Lots of roots on the way up
Right at the start of the day we had another 2000 foot climb up to South Kinsman Mountain.  The grade going north was pretty gentle for the most part and were were rewarded with a great view at the top just above the tree line.
The next mile or so was a ridge run over to North Kinsman.
The views were much better on S. Kinsman so we did not take much of a break and headed right down.  The going was pretty steep on the way down and it took us a little longer than expected.  Just as the steep part of the trail stopped we came to the first hut in the whites.  The huts are a system of camps run the the AMC.
They have bunk spaces available for a fee that includes one breakfast lunch and dinner.  The huts book up fast and are quite expensive.
We stopped at Lonesome Lake Hut for a brief break and headed on down easier trail to Franconia Notch.  I have new shoes waiting at a motel in Franconia and the motel is nice enough to offer a free shuttle.  We got into the motel with enough time to get to the local market for a quick resupply.  I'm looking forward to Franconia ridge tomorrow.

Jay on the way up Kinsman
